TALPASH, Zenovia - Our very dear mother Zenovia (Zonia) (nee Kebalo) Talpash died August 8, 2011 at Cottonwoods Care Center in Kelowna, BC.
Zonia was born November 14, 1914 to Paraskevia and Wasyl Kebalo in Sifton, Manitoba. Later the family moved to Slater. March 1935 Zonia married Joseph Talpash in the little Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Slater. She made her home with Joe on a farm he owned in Rorketon, Manitoba. Their daughter Savellia (Sylviana) Grace was born December 25, 1938 and a son Victor David December 22, 1942. In 1954 they sold out, moved to Oxbow, SK and started a Macleod’s Authorized dealership – a hardware and farm store. Our dad and mother worked very hard to succeed. In the winter of 1966 when the sale of the Macleod’s store was immanent they spent over a month in Waikiki, Hawaii, living in the same apartment complex as their daughter Savellia. This was the ultimate dream trip for the both of them. In August 1966 Zonia and Joe moved into a new home in Kelowna on Barlee Road. Joe passed away November 1979 at the age of 74. Zonia lived on her own until a stroke in August of 2006 put her in Cottonwoods, Kelowna.
Zonia is survived by her daughter (Savellia) Sylviana Gilfillan of Lynden, WA, son Victor Talpash of Coquitlam, BC, sister and brother-in-law Pat and Ann Berladyn and brother and sister-in-law Henry and Thelma Kebalo. She was predeceased in death by her brothers, Peter, Michael, Willliam and sister Olive.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:30 am at Lakeview Memorial Garden Cemetery, 2850 Dry Creek Road, Kelowna, BC.
In memory of Zenovia Talpash donations may be made to the Kelowna Salvation Army Senior’s Program or to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1931 Barlee Road, Kelowna, BC.
