SUGDEN, Robert Charles It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Sugden at the Okanagan Hospice on September 21, 2011. Bob quietly and optimistically fought cancer for almost three years. He will be terribly missed by his partner in life Doris Haas as well as his daughters Nicole and Errin Sugden, granddaughters Kirstyn and Autumn, stepdaughters Jessica and Stefanie Haist, in-laws Otto and Josefine Haas, brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Karin Waggoner and their children Morgan and Reed. His sister Janet Boyce and brother Stuart Sugden survive him. Bob and Doris moved to Peachland from Ontario in 2007, where Bob immediately became involved with his new community. Bob loved life and wanted to make a difference. He made many new friends in the Okanagan through his many interests and his quest to help create a special community. He worked tirelessly as Chair of the Highway 97 Task Force and Chair of the Peachland Economic Development Committee, and sat on the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission and the Peachland Arts Council. In recognition of his efforts, he received the Peachland Mayor’s Award of Merit. Bob worked for the betterment of sport and the arts in the Okanagan. He was successful in bringing the International Winter Children’s Games to Kelowna, their first time outside of Europe. After his many years as an official with the Canadian Football League, he was recruited by the BC Football Conference as the Supervisor of Officials for Okanagan Sun home games. Bob was a pioneer in the sport of Ringette and introduced the now popular game to BC many years ago. Bob expressed his creative side by authoring two columns in the Daily Courier, Ripple Effect and Defining Moments. Thanks to Dr. Finch, Dr. Smatanova and Dr. Wall and all the other wonderful staff at the Cancer Centre and the Okanagan Hospice for their caring support. Also thanks to Dr. Larry Hancock. Bob’s life was remembered at a Memorial Service at the United Church in Peachland at 10:00 am on Friday, October 7. Donations can be made to the BC Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior.
