SEMCHUK, Sophie

Sophie Semchuk passed away on November 6, 2017 at the age of 87. She is survived by her loving family: sons: Gary (Bev) of Prince Albert, SK, Wes (Micki) of Kelowna, BC, Zane of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren: Lori, Lindsey, Brendan, Zach, Zoey, Zabrina; great grandchildren: Brianna, Ashlyn, Keegan, Julianne, Lauren, Andrew, Emilia; nieces: Carol Parson, Anne Schmigelski and Evelyn Benrot. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald (John) Semchuk; brother Bill Yakubchuk of Prince Albert, SK; sisters: Nellie Smigelski, Annie Stratychuk and Mary Podhordeski.
Sophie was born on a small farm (Kalyna) North of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She married John Semchuk in 1949 and they started their family on the farm. They went into the hospitality industry soon after that, making many friends throughout Saskatchewan. They moved to Kelowna in 1971 and were involved with the Ukrainian Catholic Church for many years. She enjoyed travel, friends and most of all, family. She will be very much missed by her family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.

    What a sweet, sweet lady, always with a twinkle in her eye. I am so glad to have had the pleasure of meeting her and seeing her smile daily for the past four years I got to know her. She raised a wonderful family and lived a good life.

    I was so sorry to hear of Sophie's passing. I have enjoyed my short visits with her at Fernbrae on Mondays when I drop off the TV Guides gathered from the newspapers that we receive at the Transit base. I will miss her and will always remember her fondly. My condolences to you and your family.
