SELF, Lorne

SELF, Lorne - Passed away at home with his family at his side on Monday, April 20, 2009 at the age of 74.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 53 years, Denise; three sons: Timothy (Lisa) of Mississauga, ON, Michael (Juvy) of Vancouver, BC, Gordon (Theresa) of Edmonton, AB; daughter Janice Bartnick (Randy) of Kelowna; seven grandchildren: Michelle, Taryne, Laura, Emily, Ashley, Samantha, Erin; three great grandchildren: Mishyla, Luca, Elias; sister-in-law Claire Porterfield (Don) of Niagara on the Lake, ON; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents.

Lorne spent 40 years working for CN Rail. After retirement he and Denise spent 10 years wintering in Arizona. They moved to Kelowna three and a half years ago from Winnipeg and he was very involved in the Visually Impaired Society with bowling and lawn bowling. Lorne had many friends where he resided in Bristol Gardens.

The family would like to thank Dr. M. Appleby, the staff at the Cancer Center, the Prostate Study Team, as well as Palliative Care and Home Care. He will be deeply missed by all.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 am at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC with Father Wayne Pfliger as Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to OVIS (Okanagan Visually Impaired Society).
