RUMBA, Ingeburg

RUMBA, Ingeburg

April 2, 1929 - November 26, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and Oma, Ingeburg Rumba, at age 93, on November 26, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Rumba. She leaves behind her sons Dieter (Sharon) and Klaus, and daughter Jacqueline (Glen); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ingeburg was born April 2,1929, in Kiel, Germany. Living in Germany through the war forced her parents to send Inge and her sister Hanne to Austria to live for a year. When she was 20 years old, she went to a dance and met the love of her life; Albert Rumba was a sailor in the Merchant Marines. They married in 1950. She enjoyed travelling to meet him and had many fond memories of times spent on the ships. To keep busy while he was away, she became a dressmaker. She loved to sew for people and wanted to contribute to the family finances. When she was 21 her first son, Dieter, was born in Kiel. She would travel with her son to different ports around the country to visit with Albert.

Twelve years later, Albert resigned from the Merchant Marines, they all took a ship to immigrate to Canada. Their second son Klaus was born in Saskatoon, SK. Two years later they moved to Kitimat, BC, where their daughter Jacqueline was born. Inge loved raising her children, she loved cooking and baking traditional German dishes. In 1974, they wanted to move to a warmer climate and decided on Peachland, BC, where they lived for 15+ years. When Albert passed away in 1988, Inge moved to Kelowna, BC. She loved being downtown, where she rode her bike (and later cruised with her scooter) around town, visiting shops and all her friends.

In keeping with Ingeburg’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. She will be honoured in the hearts of those who had the joy of knowing her.

Jacqueline & Family, Dieter & Klaus - I was so saddened to read of your mom's passing and at the same time, I saw her infectious smile which warmed my heart - She would ride her scooter all the way down to Ellis St to do her banking and pop in to see me at the office where I work. She had an incredible life, hold on to those sun beams and watch for the butterflies and nickels! (our mom leaves nickels everywhere!) - Bis zum nächsten Mal - Heike & Family xo - Heike Mackriss
