Joseph Raffeiner was born in Bolzano, Italy on February 13, 1927. He passed away on August 11, 2011 in Westbank, BC. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years – Trudy; his son Tom(Michelle); daughter Karen; granddaughter Nataleigh(Andrew), and his grandson Coulter. Joseph is also survived by his 2 brothers in Italy – Heinl and Franz, and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was a very hard worker, and became a winemaking apprentice at the young age of 15 in Italy. He worked in Switzerland for a few years, where he met his future wife, Trudy. After she moved to New York and travelled with her new job, Joe moved to Canada, and worked for Chateau Gai Winery. Joe and Trudy got married in 1953, and had their 2 children in Niagara Falls. In 1967 the family moved to Westbank, as Joe had received a job offer to work at Mission Hill Winery, which was just starting out. He retired at the age of 80, after working there for 40 years. He also owned a cork and winery equipment company, and kept busy with that for 25 years.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1880 Dallas Road, Kelowna on Saturday August 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
We wish to thank Dr. Banwell and his staff for looking after him for many years. As well, we want to show appreciation for the loving care given to him by all the staff at Village of Smith Creek. He will be missed by many family members, friends, neighbours and associates, as he was loved by all.
