NICOLAY, Dietz (Dietmar)

NICOLAY, Dietz (Dietmar)

Dietz passed away of a heart attack early December 24th, 2018 while on vacation with his family in Vancouver, BC. Dietz was born to Anna and Henry Nicolay November 28, 1950 in Dotzlar, Germany. His step brothers Walter and Eric Herrmann and his parents crossed the ocean to become Canadians in 1952. Dietz primarily grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, where he attended school, went to U of A in Computer Sciences and ultimately started and ran several businesses. Dietz was a husband to June (Nielsen) Nicolay for over 40 years and father to Christian Nicolay. He leaves behind many who called him family and a friend.

Dietz and his family moved to Kelowna in 1996. Dietz and June quickly started a Computer Software company whose main product is distrib-u-tec Software, which still services Food Distributors, Packers and Processers across North America with ERP Computer Software and Services.

Dietz was an avid sailor and raced in the BC Sailing program on the Okanagan Lake for 12 years. He took up drumming at age 59 and facilitated a weekly music jam out of his music studio for many musical friends for over a decade. Dietz also designed and built many projects around his property and enjoyed the upper mission where the deer roam and children play.

People who have been blessed to know him, will tell you he was a character, who had a strong sense of justice and how things should be. He never did something half way. Generous, loyal and kind, he will be missed as a husband, father and friend.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday February 10th at the Kelowna Yacht Club, 1370 Water Street, Kelowna, BC from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. There will be a program and opportunity to meet with others who wish to honor Dietz.

To honor the generous and kind heart of Dietz Nicolay who was always the quiet force and facilitator behind us, let's pay it forward. In lieu of other gifts, please consider making a financial gift to the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra (OSYO) Mentorship Fund. Your gift of mentorship will empower a young budding musician. Financial gifts will be matched dollar for dollar up to $6,000 by the Nicolay Family. To give online, please go to https://okanagansymphony.com/product/osyo-mentorship-fund/ or you may mail or drop off a cheque to Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, 865 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 6P6 and please note OSYO Mentorship Fund in the subject line."
