NEWTON, Archibald "Pete"

NEWTON, Archibald

Born February 25, 1921 in Co. Durham, England. Passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 22, 2017 in Vernon BC. Predeceased by his wife of 68 years Celia in 2011. Also his siblings Jimmy, Alan, Jean and Joyce and his son in law Wayne in 2010.

Pete will be loving remembered by his son Sean and daughters Anita (Don), Jennifer (Roger) and Elaine; grandchildren Ian (Jackie), Richard, Jamie (Maria), Kevin (Tammy), Krista and Danielle (Julien); His adored great grandchildren: Aiden, Mercedes, Alison, Sara, Kaian and Nikko.

Dad was a man ahead of his time. Honour and Duty were his cornerstones of life. He served in WWII, he was rescued off the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940 and served right up to the end of the war. For 9 months following the war’s end – he went back to Europe, through to the Russian Front re-building bridges and detonating mines and bombs. He never spoke of his wartime experiences until the last few years of his life. He was a fine finishing carpenter but also worked on many large work sites in B.C. (the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge, Deas Island Tunnel; Mine infrastructure including Alice Arm, Carolin Mine, Brenda Mine and Babine Lake), in Ontario (the Toronto Subway) and in the Philippines (Maranduke Mine) where he met Ferdinand and Imelda Marcus.

He will be missed by us all.

A Funeral Service and Reception will be held Saturday, June 17th, 2017 – 1:00 PM – Alternatives Funeral Services (2980 Smith Drive, Armstrong).

Special thanks from the family to the staff at Pioneer Square for the care and affection shown to Dad in the last years of his life
