McCARTHY, Irene

McCARTHY, Irene - On January 29, 2011, at age 92, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother entered into the presence of the Lord.

Irene was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph McDonald Dunlop and her husband of 17 years Edward McCarthy. Irene was also predeceased by infant twin sons and her son Daniel, daughter-in-law Margaret and granddaughter Danica. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters Joanne (John) Soberlak of Kamloops, BC, Berne Jean Worobey of Salmon Arm, BC and Marilyn (Norm) McComber of Kamloops, BC, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Irene was predeceased by 4 sisters and 3 brothers and will be sadly missed by sister Luella Davidson. She is also survived by four step-daughters Vivian (Ray) Foley, Valerie (Wes) Field, Ruth (Lawrence) Hahn and Nola (Don) Renfrew and respective families.

Irene was born March 5, 1918 in Bracken, Saskatchewan. As a young woman of 18 she moved to Trail, BC to do housework for the Dunlop family and married Joseph, the youngest son. They raised 3 daughters and a son. Irene was known for her gift of hospitality and could serve up a wonderful Sunday dinner. While married to Ed, a retired pastor, she assisted him with visitation.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Sutherland Hills, Kelowna, BC and The Kamloops Seniors Village for the loving care they provided for our Mom.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 16th at 1:00 PM at Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 7X1.

Gifts in her memory may be made to the Christian and Mission Alliance, work of Heather Hahn (Mexico), c/o Mission Creek Alliance Church (address above) or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 1929 Bayview Ave. Toronto, ON M4G 3E8.
