McCALLUM, Allen (Al)
December 17, 1940 - June 18, 2011

Passed away at the age of 70 after a three year battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife and best friend Marlene, daughters Lori Hansen (Wayne), Jillian Patricio (Norman), Janet Farrell (David), son Gregory (Julie Puchmayr), stepsons Shawn Chute (Maureen), Carey Chute (Heather), grandchildren Matthew, Delaney, Hannah, Amanda, Linnea, Taylor, and Griffin, brothers Patrick McCallum, Jim McCallum (Sharon), brothers-in-law Bob McCormick (Kathleen), Mal McCormick, Dale McCormick (Joan), Jim McCormick, nieces and nephews, extended family and his special puppy Max. Predeceased by his parents James and Simone and sister-in-law Patricia.

Al was born in Hamilton, ON, and spent five years with the Royal Canadian Navy, based in Halifax. He spent a lifetime of learning, practicing and enjoying both engineering and science. His love of nature influenced many periods of his life and there was never enough time to take in all of his interests. He moved to Vancouver in 1970 and to Kelowna in 1980 where he worked for OUC for 20 years prior to his retirement in 2000. He was very proud of his daughters and son and enjoyed all his time with them. Al and Marlene travelled frequently throughout Canada and enjoyed retirement winters in the south where they made the most of every day. He will be missed by his many friends who especially loved his quick wit and exceptional sense of humour.

Special thanks to Dr. Obedkoff and to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Kelowna Cancer Clinic who provided exceptional and supportive care. We are also very grateful to the nurses at Hospice House for their gentle care of Al.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, June 22 at 2 pm at the Balmoral Clubhouse, 2365 Stillingfleet Rd.

In Al’s memory donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society - Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1633 Pandosy Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 1P6.
