Obituaries

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father and husband, John (Ivan) Maiwka, at the age of 92, on Friday February 23, 2018.
Dad was born in Ruda, Ukraine on January 23, 1926.
In 92 years of life dad lived through and survived extreme and horrifying times. At 21 he came to Canada alone to start a new life, one of freedom. First working many years with CPR, then at Lafarge cement plant in Exshaw, Alberta.
He married Jadwiga in 1964 and started a family. In 1971 he moved his family to Vernon, British Columbia where he worked at the plywood plant in Armstrong, up until retirement. Over the years he was involved in various groups and activities.
Through it all bad times and good times, dad loved life and held strong with faith and hope while always kind and generous. His sense of humour wit and antics never waivered some of the things he would say and do kept you laughing for days. Even in illness he had a few antics up his sleeve
Dad was an avid chess player, loved to dance knew all the steps, loved sports and followed the vipers for decades. Dad very much looked forward to going out for coffee and with dad on time meant half an hour early
