Condolence Messages
  • Greg, we met in the ICU ward, both of our father's struggling with the same condition. I was so sad to hear of your dad's passing and then my father passed also at 6am the Friday morning (see Nikiforuk obituary). It was a sad time, but I am grateful (as I am sure you are) that I had the time to spend with my Dad in his final days. As you and I said, no matter how old they are, they are still our Daddy! I wish you peace and comfort in the days ahead and a lifetime of beautiful memories. I enjoyed talking to you and it did help.

  • As a friend of the Maclean family since the late 60’s I got to know Mr. Maclean really well while hanging out with Greg at their house on Deepwood Crescent in Don Mills or at their cottage on Logan Lake. He was always doing his best to keep us whippersnappers in line, and looking back he did a great job of that. Always firm but fair, he had a knack for dealing out the punishment when necessary in a constructive way that left us feeling like we truly learned (many) a valuable lesson.

I recall a time at the cottage when Mr. Maclean and one of his friends that was visiting was talking with Greg and I about work, jobs and education. They emphasized that although we had seemingly well paying jobs that it was very important to earn a post-secondary school diploma even though it might not have anything to do with the jobs we had at that time. I remember that discussion so well and it was one of the factors that resulted in me going back to school to further my education.

In looking back I realize that Mr. Maclean had a very positive influence on my life and I’m truly grateful to have known him, his wife Mary and the rest of their wonderful family. It was a pleasure to see him again while visiting Greg and Andrea in Peachland last spring. We spent an evening reminiscing the past, looking at old pictures and watching the hockey game. After many years of him trying to get me to call him Ian (instead of Mr. Maclean) he finally succeeded. It was comforting to know that he thought of me as a friend on a first-name basis, however I think I will always remember him as Mr. Maclean, the larger than life man with a big heart and smile to match!
