LORD, Robert "Bob" Elliott Ryhs

LORD, Robert

February 23, 1940 ~ December 18, 2017

In the three years Bob lived with cancer, we were grateful for the care of Dr. Finch and the team at the Kelowna cancer clinic, also for the compassionate care of Dr. Klammer and the people of the Hospice House on Ethel Street. Bob was proud to be a member of the Canadian Merchant Service Guild for 37 years until an injury at age 55 in Alaskan waters ended his career. His was an active life. Early years with his motorcycle friends. later at Big White, where his greatest satisfaction was working with the disabled skiers.sailboat racing at KYC, and cruising the gulf Islands with his wife Roberta were all a part of this picture. Bob was predeceased by his son Robbie. He is survived by his wife Roberta, his four children, David (Yukiko), Donald (Kris), Kimberly(Brian Maleski), Kathryn(Christian). His brothers Randolph (Barbara), Roy, and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. His six grandchildren, Rosalie,Jasmin, lillianne, Sean(Dr. and Tammi Brent), Sakura, and Brian were the joy of his later years. Many life long friends will remember his ready wit and joy of a life that was well and fully lived.
By his request: I must go down to the sea again,
to the lonely sea and the sky, and all I ask . . .

    Roberta, Kim, Kathy, Don and David, we are very sad to hear this. Bob helped us buy our 1st house and has always been a great guy to be around. His irreverent sense of humour, his zest for life, on the boat or at the ski hill will be rembered. Whenever we were in Sidney we would walk down the dock to look for the boat. We will truly miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,

    To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;

    And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,

    And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

    So sorry Bobbi

    Love Rod and Anita

    Roberta we are sharing your feelings. Bob was a great guy and I always enjoyed having a verbal jousting match with him. Seems he always got the last word though. I have asked that the KYC flag be lowered in his honour.

    So long Robert. I remember well the days on the docks at KYC and the many smiles and good times that took place. The last few years have been tough, but you were ever the "sailor" and did what you could. RIP.

    Roberta, both have you have many friends and we share this time and offer our support.
