KUBIN, Stanley

Kubin, Stanley - Born June 6,1921 in Poznan, Poland, Dad passed away peacefully on April 20, 2013 in West Kelowna, B.C. Stan was predeceased by his loving wife Peggy in February 2011. He is survived by one sister in Poland, Zofia Ignaczak, his children, Cynthia (Tim), Nancy (Alistair), Judith (Bob), Richard (Sue), grandchildren Kimberly, Matthew, Taisa, Gwyneth, Marion, Michael, Sean, Nathan, Ian, Ryan, Justin and 15 great grandchildren. As a teenager, he was part of the Polish Underground Army, a hero of the Warsaw Uprising of 1943, was captured & became a POW in Germany from 1943-45 and was liberated by the British Army. He came to Canada, from England, after Demobilization in 1947. With a strong work ethic, he found employment on a farm, in a garage,& as an orderly in the Ottawa Civic Hospital where he met Peggy. He joined the RCMP in 1949 as a Special Constable Air Craft Engineer. They married in 1950 & in the following years moved across Canada. He had fascinating stories of flying with the pilots up North and was the first in the Force to become accredited to work on the new King Air aircraft. At 50 he retired to follow his dream of building a ferro-cement sailboat and travelling with his family. He accomplished both, sailing down the coast to Mexico & back. He & Peggy then lived for many years in Victoria. After her death, he moved to Kelowna, B.C to live with Cynthia and Tim. He had moved into the Village at Smith Creek in December and suffered a stroke in February. We thank, from the bottom of our hearts, the many outstanding health care professionals there, who gave him the best of care & love in his last days. There, it was "Stan's way or no way"!! Stan loved his many dogs, fixing things up, any kind of spectator sports, his woodcarving, any kind of engine he could tinker on, ice cream, and candy!. We remember his strength & perseverance, his many talents and the philosophy that he passed on to his children: "If anything is worth doing, it's worth doing well".
