KOENIG, Robert (Bob) CPA, CGA

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Koenig. Bob passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 13, 2018 at the age of 89 years.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years Maureen (McVicar) Koenig and their children: Scott (Tiffany) Koenig - grandson Blake Koenig of Kelowna, BC and Ryan (Jonquille) Koenig - granddaughter Alexandra Koenig of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his children: Robert (Patti) Koenig - grandsons Taylor and Bradley of Aldergrove, BC; Glenn Koenig - granddaughter Hannah Koenig of Nakusp, BC; Doug Koenig of Dawson Creek, BC; and James (Karen) Koenig - grandson Jake and granddaughter Julianne of Calgary, AB; Sheila (Larry) Withrow of OK Falls BC; sister Alice (Karl) Burian of Kelowna, BC; sisters-in-law Isabel and Doris Koenig, Gail Johnson of Kelowna, BC, Madeline Koenig of Castlegar, BC and Carol Koenig of Nelson, BC; brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Jablonski of Kelowna, BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Victor, brothers Joe, Matt, George, Alex, Victor and Jake, sister Margaret Jablonski, former wife Lorraine (Klein) Clerke, and daughter-in-law Diane Koenig.

Bob was born in Salvador, Saskatchewan, March 1, 1928. His family moved to Kelowna in May 1933 where he resided until moving to Calgary, AB in 2003 to be closer to family. Bob studied and received his Certified General Accountant designation in 1966 while working at Sun Rype. Bob lived a full life, vacationing each winter since 1975 in Hawaii and Mexico with family (he loved the sun). He was a Life Member of the Kelowna Kinsmen Club, acting as President, Past President, Deputy Governor and District Governor. Treasurer of the Safety Council of Kelowna, BC and Life Member of Canadian Professional Accountants of BC and Alberta. Bob was the Financial Controller of Sun Rype starting in 1954. He also was the Office Manager at Sun Rype and BC Tree Fruits (where he met Maureen), retiring in 1994, he saw many changes during those 40 years.

In later years living in Glenrosa he took pleasure in having the best yard (not a dandelion or a blade of grass out of place) and a very prolific garden, sharing the bounties of his garden with family and neighbours. As Kelowna being a Four Season Playground he played many sports, hockey and skating, snowmobiling in the winter, water skiing (once skied from Kelowna to Vernon in one go) and softball (Club 13) in his younger years. He also loved golfing with all of his sons in the summer in his later years.

Cremation has taken place and his Celebration of Life will be in Kelowna at a later date, details to follow.

Messages of remembrance may be left for the family at www.southcalgaryfuneralcentre.ca
