JONES, Phyllis Henderson

JONES, Phyllis Henderson

1921-2017

Phyllis passed peacefully at the age of 95 on March 15, 2017 after a long and adventurous life.

She was born in Hanna, Alberta and raised her family in Parkland, Alberta and then Kelowna. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Ira Jones (1995) and son-in-law Larry Foster (2014). She is survived by a large and loving family of one great-great-grandchild, 20 great-grandchildren, 14 grandchildren and seven children, including: Marilyn Foster, Kathy Skocdopole (Harry), Irene Hubbard, Iris Jones, Gayle Lauman (Harold), Wendy Rooke (David), and Murray Jones. She is also survived by a sister Edith Warren and brother Glen Williams, both from Alberta.

Phyllis was known for her sense of humour and she loved to don a costume for any occasion - parties, skits and plays. She was a strong Christian, leading by example but never preaching. She was a teacher for many years and was involved in community activities and the United Church. Phyllis was well read and and always enjoyed a conversation about current politics and the latest Toronto Blue Jay stats.

A service to celebrate Phyllis' life will be held at Rutland United Church on Saturday April 15 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Rutland United Church or charity of your choice.

Sending our deepest sympathies. Always warm thoughts of Aunt Phyllis. I have come across many letters from Aunt Phyllis to my parents that they have kept over the years. My parents always appreciated her thoughtfulness and staying in touch with them. She will be deeply missed. My mom, Grace, sends her love to all of you!

To Gayle, Becky and Jones family, please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of your Mom (and grandmother) I only met Phyllis a few times, but it was enough to know that she had a great love for her family. She has passed that trait down to all of you.

I was sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. When I was a kid in Parkland I remember you mom as always being happy and friendly and also my grade five teacher in the little wooden school house next to the red brick one.
Thinking of all of you at this time.
