HEUCHAN, Colonel Ernest Ross (RCASC Retired)
The "Colonel" died peacefully in his bed on March 16, 2011, in Kelowna, B.C.
Born in Toronto on Christmas Day 1916, he attended Delta Collegiate in Hamilton. He joined the Canadian Army in 1939 and served with distinction throughout the Second World War in Europe. He lectured at Staff College (RMC) and attended National Defence College during a full career with the Military, including 15 months as part of Canada’s Peacekeeping efforts in Gaza in 1959-60. After his military career he became a stockbroker and later, worked for the Government of Canada.
Ross is survived by Manon (nee Dollée), his wife of 64 years, his daughter, Christine Hollander (John), sons, Ross Heuchan Jr. (Adair) and Bruce Heuchan and grandchildren, Jessica Barber (Scott), Andrew Hollander, Rebecca Hollander, Ben Heuchan and Alexis Heuchan. Ross's brother Murray Heuchan died in 2010. Ross is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty, nephew John Heuchan, and niece Diane Heuchan, all of London, Ontario.
A keen sportsman his entire life, Ross was best known for his love of the game of golf. He not only played the game well and continued playing three or more times a week into his 91st year, he also volunteered a significant amount of his time at the club level as well as at the Provincial and National level, organizing and running competitions.
