With our deepest sadness we must announce the passing of our beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend, Kenneth (Ken) Robert Gurr. Ken fought valiantly against the ravages of Pancreatic Cancer for a year, but alas, succumbed to its effects on May 25th, 2011. Ken never complained and suffered unimaginable pain in silence, not wanting to burden those who knew him.
Ken was the youngest of six children born to James Mack Gurr and Ruth Doran Nygaard on October 9th, 1966. With a genius I.Q. it was well known he was the “brain” in the family. Ken was born in Bella Coola where he lived until the age of 5, when his family moved to Ashcroft and they resided there for 6 years. When Ken was 11 years old the family moved to White Rock where he attended White Rock Elementary and subsequently Semiamoo Secondary School. After high school Ken went on to Vancouver Community College where he excelled in computer technology. He changed careers for a few years and worked driving logging truck, in south eastern and northern British Columbia. Ken had continued to upgrade his computer skills and in 1997 went into the computer business for himself.
He is survived by his loving mother, Ruth and his siblings: Barbara Thomas (John), Daryl and Joan, Michael and Therese, Brian and Angela, Sandra Tompkins (Rick) as well as his nieces and nephews: Carmen, Camille, Becky, Jim, Shawn, Alysha, Loren, Stevie, Jace, Michael, Vanessa, Justine, Kyle, Reagan and Riley and his great niece Tatiana. He leaves to morn all those who knew this kind, loving, generous, caring, compassionate, empathetic human being who touched the lives of many and was taken way too young with so many unfulfilled dreams and aspirations.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Kelowna General Hospital for the excellent care given to Ken on his many hospital stays and the Oncologist’s and staff members while Ken was a patient at the Kelowna Cancer Center. We would also like to thank the wonderful Nurses, staff and volunteers at the Central Okanagan Hospice House who helped to make Ken’s final days as comfortable as possible. A special thank you as well to his niece and best friend, Becky, for putting her life on hold to come to Ken’s aid in his last months of his life
Ken, you were a gift from Heaven and we are so grateful we were able to have you for the short while we did. Love you forever.Messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.hansonsfuneral.com
