GREEN, Stewart

Stewart Douglas Green
December 15th, 1934 – February 23rd, 2018

“Grief is the price we pay for love.”
Queen Elizabeth II

It is with heavy hearts that Stewart’s family announces his passing, peacefully at home, with them by his side.
Stewart was born in MacGregor, Manitoba and raised in Portage La Prairie. In 1950, he started his military career with the 26th Field Regiment in Portage La Prairie and ended it in 1992 as DCO of the Vernon Army Cadet Camp. His Artillery career included postings across Canada, the USA and abroad. He was one of a rare handful of Officers privileged to serve in four RCHA Regiments. His training included Pilot, Advanced Fixed Wing, Helicopter and Parachutist. He also attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Kingston, Ontario and the US Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. Stew would be grateful to those colleagues and lifelong military friends who have invited him to “Stand Easy” following his 42 year career with the Canadian Armed Forces.
He enjoyed boating, water skiing, golfing, curling, hunting/fishing and for a time, was a licensed guide in Manitoba. Retirement included many enjoyable world travels with cherished family and dear friends. He will also be remembered for his great wit, love of history, completing crossword puzzles in ink, trivia and so much more.
His parents John and Catherine and brother Ted predeceased Stewart. He was loved and will be forever missed by Eleanor, his wife of 58 years, daughters Shannon Woodworth (Dana), Sandra Schulte (Paul), grandchildren Sarah McCreath (Kevin), Rachelle Read (Taylor), John Schulte, Catherine Schulte, great grandchildren Abby and Penny McCreath, Hunter and Piper Read, nieces Cathie White (Bryant) and Laurie Frangos (George).
The family would like to invite friends to join them in a Celebration of Stew’s life on Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 11:00am to 2pm at the Village Green Hotel, Vernon, BC.
Should friends wish, memorial donations may be made to the Tom McMurtry & Peter Baerg Cancer Centre in Vernon or to the charity of their choice.

“What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
Helen Keller
