FUHRMANN, Erwin – Passed away at home on Sunday April 24, 2011, at the age of 78.

Survived by his loving wife Bettie Fuhrmann, three sons Gary (Jacquie), Ken (Judy) and Dave (Betsy), five grandsons Eric, Wes, Alex, Marcus and Hans, all of Kelowna. Erwin is survived by his brother Eric (Faye) of Red Cliff, Alta. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Frieda and Mike Antonishen.

Erwin was born in Poland to the late Adolf and Elsa (Wuschke) Fuhrmann. At 11 years of age Erwin’s mother passed away. His father remarried Anna Muller. In 1950 the family immigrated to Canada and settled in Saskatchewan. On April 25, 1959, he married Bettie Opitz. During the next few years three sons were born.

Erwin’s first job when he came to Canada was farming. He then went on to work in the oil fields, pipe lining, as a heavy equipment operator, in road construction and logging. Erwin’s employment took his family through 3 western provinces, finally settling in Kelowna in 1976.

Erwin’s retirement years were spent enjoying his grandsons for whom he had an unequalled passion. He also spent many hours wine-making, fishing, gardening and telling stories of his life.

Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. Lee Loveridge on Wednesday, May 4th, 2011 at 10 am at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, B.C., with lunch and the interment to follow in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
