FINE, Madison Zoe

FINE, Madison Zoe

May 11, 1992 - December 1, 2017

It is with great sadness and heartfelt loss that we share with you the passing of our dear, sweet Maddie to an accidental overdose on December 1, 2017. Maddie was born on May 11, 1992 - mother's day and what a gift she was. Daughter to Marilynne and Robert, sister to Lana, true love to Jamie, pet mom to Daisy, grand-daughter to Beverly and Irving Fine, and Helen and Graham Kennedy, niece to Dr. David (Gail) Kennedy, Kim (Scott) Hunter, Norman (Richard) Kennedy, Lynda Kennedy, Randy (Georgy) Fine, Kevin (Jane) Fine, Bruce (Naomi) Fine, Terry (John) McCarter, cousin and friend to many, young and old.

Maddie was the most headstrong, smart., creative, entrepreneurial (and maddening at times) daughter, who never accepted help. She always wanted to solve things herself. She had an uncanny ability to read a room and any situation. She always fought for the underdog and helped a larger community of people in need.

Always an entrepreneur, she was an Avon lady/child at age 8 because she "loved the beauty products" and the cash the sales brought; she delivered the Capital News for five years with her sister Lana. She was her own leader. She saved for a television at an early age and set up a mini bistro in her bedroom. She always did things her way. As soon as she could do the babysitting course she did and kept herself busy with many families in the neighborhood with kids who adored her. A huge Seinfeld fan – on a family trip to New York, she won the trivia quiz on the Seinfeld reality tour at the age of 9.

Maddie loved animals, and once convinced her parents to allow her to have two boy mice who turned out to be a boy and a girl, leading to dozens more. She made her Dad stop the car to help wounded birds, she rescued frogs caught on the pool tarp, and most recently she cherished her sweet Frenchie, Daisy. From hamsters and guinea pigs, to her cat Spirit, to a large pet cemetery which included a ceremony for every mouse that met its demise, Maddie always looked out for the animals and people in her life. She became a vegetarian at nine, because she thought she should not eat "faces" because she loved animals so much, and in doing so brought a whole new cuisine to the Fine household for at least 5 years.

A young woman with a big boisterous laugh and a loud talker, she could make you laugh so hard you would cry with her stories. Maddie spent her last few years, loving Jamie, sharing the laughs and travelling the world, making sure she did as much as she could while she was here. Generous to a fault, she was the best, most thoughtful gift-giver. She was up to date on the news, always making sure she caught "The Situation" room, and reveled in learning as many new words in a week as she could -- words that most mere mortals would have to look up in a dictionary.

We will miss her spirit, her stubbornness and her energy, and even, in a small way, the constant chaos she brought with her wherever she went. Sleep tight, our sweet, sweet Maddie.

A celebration of life will be held in the new year. In lieu of flowers (and thanks to those who have already sent ), stay tuned as the Fine Family will come up with a suitable charity in which to donate should you choose.

I've been thinking of what to say. I could go on and on about everything I loved about Maddi. I've decided that all I will say is that even gone she's in my thoughts daily and that my heart is breaking knowing that she's gone. Marilynne, Robert and Lana, you have been in my thoughts and my prayers and so has Madison. I pray that she has finally found peace. I loved her. RIP MADDI.

I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT MADISON THE OTHER DAY. TO READ THIS AFTER NOTICING HER PHOTO ONLINE IN ONE OF THE HEADLINES, ABSOLUTLY REMINDS ME YET AGAIN HOW VERY UNFAIR THIS WORLD CAN BE. MY BOYFIEND JUST PASSED AWAY IN MARCH FROM THE SAMETHING. WHEN I MET MADISON WE WERE BOTH AT A POINT IN OUR LIVES OF EITHER MAKE IT OR BREAK IT. BOTH LOOKING AT A YEAR OR MORE TIME FOR PAST MISTAKES AND SHE CAME IN A FEW DAYS AFTER ME. SHE WAS MY ROOMMATE. ALL I REMBEMBER WAS GIVING HER THIS DIRTY LOOK AND SAYING TO HER, YOU BETTER NOT BE A THIEF AND MAKE SURE YOU SHOWER EVERY DAY. LOL, SHE WAS NOT AT ALL A BAD PERSON, UNCLEAN OR A THIEF. SHE HAD ME LAUGHING SO HARD THE FIRST HOUR WE SPENT OVER THE LOCK UP WHERE YOUR STUCK INSIDE YOUR CELL WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. WE BOTH DECIDED WE WERE GOING TO APPLY TO GO TO MEDIUM SECURITY AND GET JOBS TO MAKE OUR TIME GO BY QUICKER. BY THE NEXT WEEK THAT IS WHERE WE ENDED UP AS ROOMMATES AGAIN. I REMEMBER HER CALLING HER MOM AND DAD AND HER MOM SENT IN A BUNCH OF DENTAL PRODUCTS FOR ALL THE WOMEN. I BELIEVE SHE IS EITHER A DENTIST OR HYGENIST EITHER WAY IT WAS A GOOD WAY TO SEE INTO HER SOUL. BEING IN A PLACE FULL OF PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE THAT DON'T WANT TO BE AT ALL, AND STILL THINKING OF WHAT SHE COULD HAVE DONE TO MAKE PEOPLE WHO OFTEN HAVE LITTLE OR NOTHING HAPPY EVEN IF RECEIVING SOMETHING, NORMALLY ON YOUR LIST OF THINGS TO BUY AT THE GROCERY STORE. SHE SHOWED ME HOW TO MAKE CRAFT DINNER AND NOODLES MIXED TOGETHER I HAD NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF SOMETHING LIKE THAT TASTING GOOD AND I REMEMBER SHE HAD A PET PIG AT ONE POINT IN TIME. ANYWAY I AM SO SADDENED TO HEAR THIS HAPPENED TO YOU AS WELL AS THE COUNTLESS OTHERS ON THE GROWING LIST.YOU DID NOT DESERVE THIS AT ALL. I CAN HEAR YOUR INFECTIOUS LAUGH WHEN I THINK OF YOU RIGHT NOW, IT ALWAYS USED TO MAKE ME LAUGH HEARING IT. THANK YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A DARK TIME IN MY LIFE ACTUALLY BEARABLE WHEN I HONESTLY THOUGHT I COULDN'T DO WHAT I HAD AHEAD OF ME. I'M SO SORRY THIS HAPPENED TO YOU MADISON. WATCH OVER US ALL AND REST IN PEACE. IF YOUR FAMILY NEEDS ANYTHING I KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW ME BUT PLEASE ASK IF YOU NEED ANYTHING AT ALL.

After days of hearing of Maddie's passing I have been trying to find the words to express the heartache you must be feeling.....but there are none. To the Fine family. I have never met you and can't know how you are dealing with the pain of the loss of your beautiful daughter. I too lost my precious 27 year old son in 2002. He passed away five years after diagnosis of a brain tumour. I think of him every day and miss him so much, especially this time of year. Words can't make your sorrow any easier to bear but they can show how other people sympathize with your sorrow. When someone you love becomes a memory the memory becomes a treasure. Take good care of each other.

I am so sorry for you loss. I had the privillage of being introduced to Maddie almost two years ago. It wasn't long before I realized, she was like no one else I'd ever met; her soul, her heart, her inner and outer beauty. In the short time I knew her she showed me more compassion than anyone In my life ever had( that's no lie). When I had nobody, she came into my life, and her friendship was all I needed. In my 35 years of being alive, no one had ever told me they were proud of me, no one had ever written me every day, no one ever encouraged me, or wanted me to go to college and succeed like Maddie, so much so that she offered to pay for it. I have lost a lot of people, my mom being the first and most painful, and now Maddie. It always amazed me how such a young lady could be full of so much love for all those around her. It made me realize if she can do it why can't others? It was so natural for her, I learned a lot from her. It may seem weird to some people that I am affected by the loss of such a beautiful soul when I only knew her for a short time, but I think that speaks volumes to the beautiful soul she is.
I will miss your letters, your pictures, our talks, and getting a different word and meaning in the LETTERS you wrote me. I still have the pictures of different words, actually I still have every picture you ever sent me and every letter. I will miss your encouragement, I will miss everything about you. Thank you Maddie for everything you ever did for me, for every letter, visit, call, probation you made on my behalf, for all the love, compassion, beautiful aura that killed the room when you came into it. Thank you for reminding me that there are good people on earth. Thank you for opening my eyes so that I can also be compassionate. I promise I am going to go to college and do a trades so that I can make you smile while you look over us all. In my eyes, you are the most beautiful person I have ever met. You came and you conquered. You gave all of your heart. You loved with all that is in you. More of us need to be like you, the world needs people like you. I am at a loss for words. Oh Maddie this is not easy, I can't even begin to imagine what your family feels. I know what I feel and I didn't spend your whole life knowing you. I wish I could have been there. I am grateful to have met you. I will never forget you, I will never stop thinking about all the amazingly beautiful way that is you. Hopefully you are up there with my mom, if there is such a thing. You are now part of our stars. Sending all of you my love.
There are no words that I think are more fitting than expressing just how beautiful her soul is. She truly is an angel. Until we meet again bunny.
    Love, Cinthia Fraser

My heart aches for all of you...there are no words. The love and acceptance and understanding you all felt was beautifully said in the words above. I didn't know her in her last years, but as a child she left a huge impact. She thought, loved and lived intensely. The ripples of her life were felt by each member of our family and by our pets. I'm certain she is free now, and joined by Bailey and all her pets and loved ones that were waiting for her. Rest in peace, sweet girl.

We do not know Madison but reading this dedication we know that we would have adored her and everything about her. She sounds so lovely and like she knew at a very young age what really mattered in life and lived by that. We wish for you all the support you will need now and in the coming years. We are so sorry for your loss.

i had many talks with Maddie about her frustrations, dreams and aspirations, she was truly capable of anything she set her mind to. I am truly saddened when I hear of a student who did not make it and I never expected it to be Maddison.
