EVANS, Gordon James

EVANS, Gordon James

October 15, 1939 - November 21, 2017

Gordon passed away peacefully November 21, 2017 at the Hospice House at the age of 78. He is survived by sons Ross & Joel, daughter Kim (Glenn) and 2 grandsons Justin & Brendan. Gordon is also survived by his brother Bryan (Marnie) and loving extended family. He was predeceased by his wife Gladys in 2013.

Gordon is best known for his Upholstery shop. He started in the business as an apprentice at the age of 16 and in 1963 he opened his own business in Kelowna. He never retired.

Gordon will be greatly missed by his family and long-time friends who he has known for many years through his shop. Gordon’s Upholstery was a hub of activity any day of the week. It was a meeting place for lunch, for good conversation, for storytelling and of course, some amazing upholstery work. He loved and was very proud of his two grandsons. He loved watching their activities over the years, supporting them in whatever they were doing in their life and kept them laughing with his unique sense of humor.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caring nurses and volunteers who work at the Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House in his memory. https://www.kghfoundation.com/priority-need/hospicepalliative-care/

Celebration of life to be held Wednesday January 10, 2018, from 1-3 pm at the Trinity Baptist Church, 1905 Springfield Road, Kelowna, B.C.

To Joel and the Evans family we would like to extend our thoughts and condolences. It was always a pleasure and many times a good laugh at Gord's sense of humor and commentary over the 30 years of business and personal contact that we enjoyed with him.My wife and I were just smiling and remembering when she caught Gord at a weak moment and sweet talked him into doing some furniture for her, although she did have to promise to bring him in some homemade chocolate chip cookies.Take care Joel.... hope to see you soon

    Kim, Ross, Joel and family,
My deepest sympathy on the passing of your Dad. Every December when I would bring my grandson to visit my Mom on her birthday, we would excitedly watch for the beautiful Christmas display at your house - it never, ever disappointed ! Your parents were wonderful people and will be forever missed in the S.E. Kelowna area.

Ross, Joel and Kim, it is with great sadness and condolences that I read of the passing of your dad. Many times standing in the upholstery shop shooting the sh*t with Gord and Joel talking about everything and fixing the world of all its problems.

Joel I will miss coming and and catching up on politics and all the Rutland gang with you and Gordon. Trust me I will still come and see you.
Glad I got in there a couple of months ago for a visit. I never forget when I brought the 52 in and Gordon told me it would take a few weeks and a few days later he called and said when are you going to come get this blankety blank car out of here. I said is there a problem and he said no it's all finished and it looked great.

To the Evans Family, We are so sad to hear of your loss. Our father, Peter Barclay spent many, many days getting Gordon's help, visiting down at the shop chatting with Gordon, which he loved to do, or going to his grandson's hockey games! Many, happy memories he had of Gordon and your family! Our thoughts are with you. Leslie & Richard Weisbeck and the Barclay Family

I always enjoyed stopping in at the shop when I needed some upholstery work done, "Mr Eb", Joel, and in the old days Ross, were an interesting wealth of knowledge of what was going on in town. I hope the tradition carries on. My family also took great delight in welcoming the Christmas season by stopping by the Evans residence and taking in the unbelievable light display. Thank you for that..I'm not sure with all that has happened if you are considering putting up the display again, but if you are, my family, and many others I have talked to would love to pitch in and help out.
