DAMAN-WILLEMS, Marjorie (nee Robinson)
December 30, 1925 – July 8, 2011
On Friday, July 8, 2011, Marjorie “Morning Star” passed away peacefully at the age of 85 with family by her side. Predeceased by her devoted and loving husband Norman (1986), as well as her parents (Solomon & Kate Robinson) and her two brothers Bill and Jack Robinson.
Marj will be truly missed by her three daughters Karen Daman-Willems of Kelowna, Lynn Jensen (Ernie) with grandchildren Brooke, Norman (Chelsea) and great grandchild Helen, and James, all of Edmonton, and Laurel Milsom (Gord) of Kelowna with grandchildren Heather of Saskatoon and Daman presently of Duluth, Minn., and her two sons Laird Daman-Willems (Cathy) with grandchildren Justin with great grandchild Samantha, and Jessica, all of Calgary, and Stacey Daman-Willems (Kyla), with grandchildren Madison and Rylie, all of North Vancouver. Marj also leaves behind 3 very close and dear friends that have shared their lives together since childhood, Hazel Templeton of Winnipeg, Del Norse of Winnipeg, and Bunny Beck of Saskatoon.
Since moving to Kelowna in 1993 from Winnipeg, Marjorie joined the KGH Auxiliary and had been an active member right up to June of 2010 when she fell and broke a hip stopping her from going in to make sandwiches (one of the sandwich queens) of the Snackery at KGH. She loved volunteering at the Auxiliary and was very proud of becoming a “Life Member” this past December. She leaves behind many friends from this love, in particular Eileen H, Eileen R, and Pat, as well as the monthly lunch group. Prior to moving to Kelowna, Marj enjoyed a long career and many friends at BMO starting as a young woman in Winnipeg, then transferring to Vancouver where she retired after many successful years in the Mortgage department. Her dear friend Virginia was always in her thoughts and the family thank her for her visits to Mom.
As per Marj’s request there will be no service. A private family gathering will occur at a later date in Vancouver at Jericho Beach to celebrate her life. Norman and Marjorie wrote this poem while together many years ago:
Scatter these ashes far and wide
To kiss the shore at every tide
And thou you’ll feel I’m far away
I’ll be close to you part of every day.
Feel no sorrow for as you know
Life for me was not a bore
Blessings come in many ways
Cherished by loved ones all my days
Played, laughed and cried a bit
But this is life, isn’t it?
So now I’ve gone, for I have died
Scatter my ashes far and wide.
The family wishes to thank the fantastic staff at the Village of Smith Creek whom welcomed Marjorie and her family right from the time she arrived in mid December 2010. Many staff that got to know Marjorie well during her short stay in the Gellatly wing came in during her last few days (even on their days off) to say their goodbyes, and to comfort the family that was by her side most of that time. Thank you in particular to Karen, Sue, Linda, Ashley and Ann.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KGH Auxiliary or Kelowna SPCA.
