CLEMENS, Roy

Roy passed away peacefully on April 8, 2013 at the age of 95 at Village of Smith Creek in West Kelowna, with his daughter at his side. Roy was born in Moose Jaw, March 14, 1918. This farm boy fell in love with flying at an early age. He studied aeronautics and became a pilot and technical officer in the RCAF serving in England during WWII. In 1946 he and his wife and daughter moved to Regina where he was service manager for Bell Motors and later White Trucks. In 1961 he was transferred to Vancouver and then to Kelowna in 1967 to set up Western Star truck manufacturing. He coordinated Air Search and Rescue for this region for 35 years, retiring from that position at age 87. Roy was an active member of: the Legion; Central Lions Club; UCT; EAA, and Kelowna flying club.
Roy was predeceased by parents Guy and Alma Clemens, siblings John and Phyllis, and Marion his wife of 62 years. He is survived by brother Earl and sister Patricia Green, his daughter Patricia Campbell, grandchildren Roy (Natasha) and Denise, four great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roy will be missed by his family and many friends. The family would like to thank the many people who provided care for him in the last two years of his life. This includes health professionals at the: Capri clinic, home care and palliative care nurses; staff at Village of Smith Creek (Paynter and Reece units) who gave Roy and his family such compassionate care in his three month stay there; Dr. Whiting, Mel and Dr. Sorestad. There will be a Celebration Memorial at Trinity Baptist Church on Monday April 15, 2013 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to: The B.C. Lung Association or for Cancer Research.
