CHUBB (NEE LEWIS), Shirley May

The 'good news' is Shirley started on her long awaited journey towards joining Frank. The bad news is, Shirley passed away, August 5th, 2018, aged 89, at The Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna, after coping with a slow Progressive Dementia. Shirley was born April 23, 1929 in Bon Accord, Alberta. She excelled in track events in school, was Captain of the Women's Basketball Team and Vice President of Student Council at Vermillion College. She worked as an AGT telephone operator before marrying her brother Bob's best friend, Reverand Frank Chubb, June 6, 1950. She and Frank lived in Lethbridge, Dawson Creek, South Edmonton then North Edmonton, where she was instrumental in developing a preschool/daycare in the old manse at Norwood United, before moving to Penticton in 1972. She worked as a Sears Catalogue Sales Rep, was involved with Frank as a Clergy Couple for Marriage Encounter for 10 years where they touched many couples' lives, believing the world needs more Unconditional Love. Her hobbies were knitting, cooking, bowling (winning several trophies in her league), camping, then RVing with family. Shirley loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her great perceptive listening skills and her generous radiant smile.
She is survived by: her sister Mary, brothers: Bob, Tom (Roseann), and Vernon; children: Don of Bon Accord, Alan (Penny) of Likely, BC, Ted of Prince George, Heather (Bill) of Calgary, Ian of West Kelowna and Kevin (Gitane) of Maple Ridge, BC; grandchildren: Brooke, Chris, Steve, Jenn, Jess, Luke, Becca, Manda, Jon, Nick, Robert, Liam and Abby; 7 great grandchildren and many more extended family. She is predeceased by her sister Olive, brother Stewart and her beloved husband for 61 years, Frank. A Celebration of her life will be held at Penticton United Church, 696 Main Street, on Saturday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a light lunch.     To the family,

    Shirley will be missed by her family at VSC. I could always count on a big smile everytime I crossed paths with her.Shirley was a sweet lady, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to care for her.I will miss you Shirley!Rest easy.
