CHRISTIANSON, Yvonne Edna Stefanson Abrassart, age 76, of Kelowna, passed peacefully Monday morning, December 12, 2011 in the caring environment of Central Okanagan Hospice House.

She was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, June 4, 1935 to John & Helga Stefanson.

Yvonne was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Lloyd, sisters Onie, Aurora, Steinunn (Jo), father of her children, Bud Abrassart and many other beloved family and friends. Yvonne is survived by her brother Numi, sisters Nina and Kris (John), son Dean and Nancy (Illinois) and their children Dana and Neil, daughter Diane and Jim Paterson (Kelowna) and their children Lauren and Erik, step-son Larry and Debbie Christianson (Oregon) and their children Jodie, Emily and Amy, step-daughter Jill Christianson (California) and Yvonne’s sister-like friend Sylvia (Thor) Sigurdson (Winnipeg).

Yvonne took pleasure in the simple things in life having been grounded by strong family values from her Winnipegosis upbringing and joy of life ingrained in her from the Stefanson clan. She very much enjoyed singing from an early age in the church choir and later she and Lloyd joined the Scandinavian Choir. Without exception, all who knew Yvonne loved her unique perspective on a situation; she could always generate a smile as she pointed out the “crazy” of any circumstance. She maintained her sense of humour right to the end. Spending time with her family and friends was most important and we are grateful to have many wonderful memories.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Yvonne’s memory to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Central Okanagan Hospice House who made Yvonne’s final journey comfortable and peaceful.

A service and celebration of Yvonne’s life will be held in Winnipeg this summer.
