CHOP, Stefania 'Stella'

Stella passed away peacefully on November 17, 2009 at the Penticton Regional Hospital at the age of 86 years.

She is survived by her three children; John (Jacky) Chop of Calgary, Helen (Roy) Girvan of Kelowna and Lorrie (Steve) Kothig of Lethbridge,6 grandchildren; Barbara Girvan (Norm) Pelletier, Brenda (Mark) Glowacki, Rhonda Sedgewick, Greg Chop, Austin and Haley Kothig, 5 great-grandchildren; Lindsay, Markus and Mason Glowacki, and Brandon and Shayne Sedgewick. Also surviving is one brother, Victor Alexandrovich of Manning, and one sister, Frances (Mike) Budzinski of Edmonton, Alberta. Stella was predeceased by her mother and father, Mary and Martin Alexandrovich, her husband William Chop, her brother Peter Alexandrovich and her sister Hedwig Chop.

Stella was born on August 3, 1923 in Piszczac, Poland and at the age of 13 immigrated to Canada with her parents and four siblings. In 1940 she married William Chop and they farmed at Dixonville, Alberta. In 1981 they retired to Grimshaw, Alberta. Her husband passed away in 1987 and she continued to live in Grimshaw until 1994 when she moved to Summerland to be near her family. Stella loved to play cards, bingo and bowling, to visit the Casino and participate in activities at Parkdale Lodge in Summerland where she resided for over nine years. She was an excellent cook and a hard worker alongside her husband on the farm. She complemented her daily life with faithful prayer and cherished her time with her family. She enjoyed traveling to destinations including Mexico, Hawaii, Reno and the two return trips she made back to her native Poland.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Church of The Holy Child in Summerland with Celebrant Father Benet Britto-Prahbu, interment will follow at Canyon View Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions, if desired, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.
