CAMERON, Douglas
September 24, 1954 – May 13, 2011
Doug passed away peacefully at the Kelowna Hospice House on Friday May 13, 2011 in an atmosphere of love, most especially from his beloved wife Claire. Both were supported through this part of their journey by loving friends and family, amazing Hospice staff, and deeply caring volunteers.
Doug was brought up in north Toronto and at the Cameron cottage on Go Home Bay with his sister, Barb, and brother, Steve. He spent much of his younger years as a wandering spirit. Returning to Toronto, he graduated from York University and went on to a career as an entrepreneur in industries ranging from catering, to real estate, to special events production and co-ordination, and finally to his true calling as a life-changing master coach.
He became the devoted husband of Karin and, in 1983, proud father of Christopher. A particularly precious experience for him was the rich, quality time he spent in Germany with Karin, Christopher, Katharina and Paul in November 2010.
Since 1990 Doug has been designing and presenting seminars on communication skills, relationship dynamics, and leadership for individuals and organizations. Whilst training as a facilitator, guided by the late great Jim Quinn, Doug met his beloved wife Claire. They married in June 1997.
In 2004, Claire and Doug moved to Kelowna, BC: a place of fond memories for Doug from his early travels. A not so coincidental meeting with an old seminar buddy from Toronto in 2009 led to Doug co-founding Full Spectrum Leadership, where he was the principal facilitator and the guiding coach.
As the many cards, emails and letters that have flowed in since his illness attest, Doug has changed the lives of countless people over the years through his workshops and his other activities. Through these changed lives and the lives of those they touch, Doug will live on.
His unconditional embodiment of the principles of love-based leadership, compassion, wisdom and inspiration will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
If you would like to make a memorial donation in Doug’s name, please consider giving to www.inspirehealth.ca or your local hospice.
