BARRON, LORETTA – June 12, 1924 – July 31, 2008. It is with great sadness I announce the passing of my beloved mother. Predeceased by her husband, Martin; sisters, Helen and Mary; brothers, Francis, David and Jack; parents, Francis and Bridgid Scurrey; parents in law, Charles and Lucy Barron. Left to enjoy our memories of her are; daughter, Liz (Don); sister, Betty Holl-Juaire of St. Paul, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews as well as her special feline friends Dora and Scooter. Mom was born in St. John’s, NFLD. She lived in Brooklyn, New York from 1941 – 1949 where she finished school and worked for Abraham & Straus Department Store. When she returned to St. John’s she worked for Carling O’Keefe Brewery where she met my dad and they married in 1953. Mom moved to Penticton in 1996. She was a founding member of the Senior’s Drop In Centre where she sang and had lunch every Tuesday which was the highlight of her week. Mom also held court as queen of Cherry Lane Mall. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched with her love and sense of humour. Mom will be taken to St. John’s, NFLD to be laid to rest with dad. In lieu of flowers donations may be made directly to Penticton Senior’s Drop In Centre, 2965 South Main Street, Penticton, V2A 5J7. A celebration of her life will be held in Penticton at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Providence Funeral Homes.
