Condolence Messages

Dear Jack, Steve, Genee, Linelle and JP. Gary and I want to extend our deepest sympathies to you all during this most difficult time. There is no question that Susan touched so many different people in so many different ways. She has been an incredible friend to me for close to 25 years. She was a mentor, a boss, a friend and then she called me sister. The emptiness in my heart at losing my sister is, well, awful. What makes it manageable is recalling the spirit of all that Susan represented as you all surrounded her with devotion, love and caring. There was no doubt in her mind of the love her family had for her. Gary and I wish you all peace in your heart remembering your most remarkable Wife and Mother Susan. Rest In Peace, hope you're driving a fast car in heaven!

    Gary and Laura Madge.

Dear Jack and Family, We are blessed to have known Susan both through Coop and as golfers and curlers in Kelowna. Susan's spirit, determination and joyous attitude will always lighten the darkest of corners; and there is a dark corner in our world since her passing. She inspired me to pursue my dreams, to be brave, and to cheer for the underdog - my career choices were inspired by her influence, as were many women whose lives she touched. We will miss her laughter, her humor, her swing, courage and friendship - she was ferocious. Yvette and Bear.

It has been a few days since we have learned of Susan's passing. We have all been sharing stories and even people who never worked along side her have either said

" I have heard of her before " or " I wish I knew her" I am proud to say she was a friend and co worker. She was always supportive of me and my choices both personally and professionally. Gone far too young and will never be forgotten.

    Rest in Peace

    Jack & Family,

Susan was my first mentor as I was starting my career as a young leader at Calgary Co-op. I looked up to her and admired her like no other. I had no idea she was ill, as we lost touch when she retired, my heart is broken. This woman was a trailblazer and a feminist, and everyone whose life she touched is better for it. Much love and support to her family through this difficult loss.

Some of my finest memories from Co-op are working side by side with Susan Buckely. I feel truly blessed to have been given this time with her. Always smartely dressed, the click of her heels, her infectious laugh, the scent of her perfume, moves me to tears to think of her gone. Susan could bring you up even if you were not down. I was never more inspired during, and even after working with Susan. Difficult to describe in words for me, but if I had to pick a word it would be "magical" . My deepest and sincere condolences to Jack, the family, and to all who knew and loved her.

So sorry to hear of Susan's passing. My thoughts are with you Jack & family. Susan was my centre manager at Co-op. Susan was one of a kind, very wonderful lady and was always there for us, she didn't hesitate to jump right in & help us in the deli, bakery or wherever help was needed. I can remember several cold winter days Susan would be carrying out peoples groceries in her high heels & wearing a dress. RIP Susan, you will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you.

I had Susan as a Co-op Centre Manager twice - tough as nails but fair as fair could be. You always knew she was coming because you would hear her trade mark heals on the approach! Susan was a true "roll up your sleeves and get in there" manager and was widely respected for that. Susan loved to travel and one of my favourite memories was when she told me about and performed for me her invented language. She found it easier to baffle street vendors with a language that no one knew rather than tell them no. Funniest thing ever! Hard to imagine a power house like that gone. My thoughts are with her family.

So sorry for your loss, Jack and family. Susan and I were contemporaries in our careers at Co-op. She successfully rose the corporate ladder but always extended a helping hand to those behind her. Susan was a role model....second to none. When this news came to me on Vancouver Island I was stunned. I know her loving memory will sustain you as the days and weeks go by. She was very much loved and respected by the many, many lives she touched. And now she has earned her peace....rest well, my friend!

I am so sorry to hear this. Susan & I met through Co-op then we became friends. Her laugh was amazing, her work ethic was what she wanted from us. She was too young to pass my heart breaks for the family. She will be remembered by so many & always in our hearts. Another sad day here on this earth. AMEN, CANCER SUCKS.

Iris Boutwell & family - prayers with all of you

Our condolences to all of Susan's family. We have so many fond memories of working with Susan. Susan was a mentor and a true trail blazer for so many of us at Calgary Co-op. We had many conversations and laughs over the years. Susan had a huge impact on so many of us and will be missed. One of my favourite memories was having to call Susan at 4 am for an emergency at the store and she showed up with her hair perfect, her lipstick on, outfit pressed and the only thing missing was her high heels at 4:45 in the morning! RIP Susan you were one of a kind xx.

Dear Jack and family, it is so sad to hear that you have lost the most important person in your life. I still can't believe that Susan is gone, she always was one of my favorite people to work with. I always made her laugh, every time, and when I needed help I could always count on Susan for it. Dear Jack & Family,

I am so truly sorry to hear of Susan's passing. I have known Susan for over 30 years - as she hired me at coop at the age of 16. She was a wonderful woman, spoke so highly of her family always, and was one of the most respected people I ever knew.

My children loved coming into work to see her and her beautiful smile and her endless hugs, that always made their day (not to mention her high heels that my daughters were always in awe over).

I loved working with her, loved having her in my life as a mentor and loved having the privilege of calling her a friend. She made me laugh daily and was always there with a kind word, honest advice and a loving hug. She will always be lovingly & fondly remembered for a multitude of amazing qualities. My life is far richer for having known her.

My love & prayers are with all of you.

    Sincerely,

    Tamatha Ogilvie & family

We certainly agree with Jim and Lorne's comments but some friends may not know of Susan's enviable Texas Holdum poker skills. Impressive, indeed.

Jack, our prayers are with you.

Truly saddened to hear of Susan's passing. I had the pleasure of curling with her in some mixed bonspiels and in addition to being a very fine curler she was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. Taken from us much too early.

Thinking of you Jack in this trying time and wish you the all the best.
