BROWNS, Dwight Sherman

BROWNS, Dwight Sherman

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Dwight Sherman Browns, a loving father, Papa, brother, uncle and friend to many. Dwight, aged 74, left us suddenly on April 13, 2017 at Central Okanagan Hospice House, after suffering a stroke, surrounded by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children Nathan (Sara) Browns of Penticton and Kelly (Scott) Terris of Kelowna; as well as his beloved grandchildren Lily, Macy and Griffin. He is also survived by his sister LaRue Hayes (Carlo) of Kelowna and the mother of his children Bonnie Browns of Kelowna. He was predeceased by his loving parents Sherman and Violet and his younger brother Kim.

Dad was born in Calgary, Alberta on April 3, 1943. He grew up on the family farm in Rockyford, Alberta. Dad spent many of fun adventures and family reunions at his maternal grandparents homestead in Drumheller. He received a bachelor of commerce in Calgary, from Mount Royal University. After moving to the Okanagan he worked as the Economic Development Commissioner for the Central Okanagan Regional District for over 10 years.
From there, dad worked and lived in various locations throughout his life, however Kelowna was always home.

Dad made his journey back to Kelowna almost three years ago. He spent his time enjoying walks on the mission greenway, scouring beaches for that perfect piece of driftwood to carve, spending time with his family, writing, and his sports. Never missing an important curling match or watching the Blue Jays try to win a game or two. We are so happy to have had the past three years with you back home Dad. We miss you everyday so very much.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 21st at 1-4pm at the Okanagan Mission Activity Centre, 4398 Hobson Road, for family and friends. If you would like to attend please RSVP to [email protected].

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked memorial donations be directed to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association, 200-1890 Cooper Road, Orchard Plaza, Kelowna, BC V1Y 8B7. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.

So sad to hear of Dwight's pre-mature passing. I found Dwight always very happy, joking, laughing, understanding and caring. I also worked with him at the RDCO. I'm sure his absence will surely be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Dwight will be missed. We had a lot of interesting discussions and laughs over the years at the RDCO and he was a proud founding member of the RDNHL for years and I believe he was even on the Board of Directors.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
