BARR, Kenneth David

BARR, Kenneth David

Ken was born on June 19, 1930 in Tugaske, SK. He passed away February 4, 2018 in Kelowna, BC

In his early years Ken worked on the Trans Canada Highway near Regina. He then went on to earn his Power Engineer Ticket, retiring from SAIT in 1990. Ken and Marg moved to Sorrento, BC and then later to Kelowna to enjoy retirement close to Marg's family. Ken was involved in the AA program for the past 57 years. He took great joy in helping others through the 12 steps. Ken loved being active: in later years he walked many miles, rode his bike on the narrow streets of Kelowna and joined friends on his motorcycle.

Ken was predeceased by Marg, his loving wife of 34 years, in 2016 and his infant son Milton in 1949. He is survived by his son Tom (Denise) from Calgary, daughter Wendy from Newfoundland; two step children Sue (Dave) from Kelowna and John (Lisa) from Okotoks; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the kind staff at Hospice House and Mountain View Facility in Kelowna for their compassionate care.

Sorry to hear. Ken was a great motorcycle enthusiast and he had many friends in the gold wing group. He was very much a friend to everyone. When he wasn't on his motorcycle he was pedalling around Kelowna on his bicycle. I believe he put in more than 50 km almost every day for years. Unfortunately when he lost his dear wife Marg his world started to come down. He was a great person who spoke little but when he had something to say, everyone listened.

Unfortunately we are out of town and will miss his funeral. Ken will be happy to be with his dear wife Marg by his side. God Bless them and their families.

Ken and Marg both helped so many people during their journey. I am grateful to have received their kindness and love (and the occasional kick in the pants from Ken) on many occasions. Ken will be missed by the many people. Condolences to his family and friends.
