BALICKI, Anthony "Tony" Herbert

BALICKI, Anthony

Anthony (Tony) Balicki passed away peacefully on the morning of March 30, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves behind his loving wife Sally and their two daughters, Cindy and Tracy.

Mom and dad celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on March 27, 2020 and we have fond memories of that night.

Mom and dad met and married in Saskatoon and this is where Cindy and Tracy were born. Tony was born in Henribourg, Saskatchewan on November 25, 1943 to parents Sophia and Joseph. Dad’s parents immigrated to Canada from Poland and as such Polish was his first language; he did not learn to speak English until he started school in Prince Alberta where he attended the Catholic schools and was taught by nuns.

He was predeceased by his parents and his two older brothers, Johnny (Joy also deceased) and Charlie (Doreen); his younger sister Helen (Jim) Thompson still resides in Saskatoon. He leaves behind to mourn several extended family members, friends and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss his dry sense of humour and his bushy eyebrows.

The family relocated to Kelowna in January 1973 as Dad started his lengthy career in tire sales and service. Mom and dad purchased their first and current home in Rutland in 1978; this is still the family home and holds fond memories for all. Dad moved to Kelowna for the summer heat which he loved and he was quick to tell those who complained about the heat to “move back to where they came from”; he would hibernate in the winter and loved his long johns. Travelling, camping and many trips to the various hot springs in BC with his family were his favorite past times. Soaking in the hot springs is one thing that he could sit and do for hours on end (this was the only time that his hands were truly clean of all the grime from all the hard use at work).

Mom and dad were able to take an extended vacation to China in 2014 and even climbed the steps on the Great Wall. Dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was quite involved with various church activities in his younger years. Once his daughters were school aged his focus switched to family activities and raising his daughters and making sure they were raised as good Catholics. Mission Creek Park has always held special meaning for the family as they spent many happy times hiking, picnicking and playing at the park.

The family would like to thank Drs. Joshua, Hickman, Hodgins, Campling, the teams at ambulatory care, 6W, the ER and Palliative Care who provided such excellent care during the last several months of his life.

Given Covid 19 there will no be no prayers or funeral service at this time. As per dad’s wishes he will be cremated; he will be interned at a later date (once we are able to physically hug one and other) at which time there will also be a celebration of life.

The family respectfully request no flowers, however, please feel free to make a donation in dad’s name to the kidney foundation or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services, (250) 860-6440.

    Dear Sally, Cindy and Tracy,

Like so many, we will so miss Tony, his eyebrows, the sparkle he got in his eye when he teased some dog that he loved and his sincere concern for others. His sense of humour will never be duplicated!

We hope that this big hole in your lives can fill in a little, over time, knowing he is at peace.

Please know we are here for you.

    Love,

    Lee and Patti
