AITCHISON, William Kenneth (Ken) Gordon

AITCHISON, William Kenneth (Ken) Gordon

August 31, 1940 to May 17, 2018

Ken passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home in Kelowna, BC on Thursday morning, May 17th at the age of 77.

Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to William and Flora Aitchison (nee Thomson), Ken was an only child. He attended King George School in Moose Jaw until the family moved to Saskatoon in 1948. There Ken attended Mayfair school and graduated from Bedford Road Collegiate Institute in 1959. He was an avid member of Scouts Canada from 1949 to 1957 and was also a reservist with the Canadian Military. Ken attended Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and achieved his Diesel Mechanic certificate in 1961. He then received his Certificate of Proficiency as a Heavy Duty Mechanic in 1969. In 1972 he was certified by the Petroleum Industry for Basic Instrumentation and later as Maintenance Mechanic – Pipeline Industry in 1974. Ken excelled throughout his career and was meticulous in every aspect of his life.

Ken worked for RJ Fyfe in Edmonton until eventually moving to Williams Lake, BC where he worked for BC Equipment. This is where he met the love of his life, Sheila Streader (nee Baldock). Ken and Sheila were married July 25, 1970 in Williams Lake. Ken proudly adopted Sheila’s three children, Kenneth, Valerie and Lynda. Ken began his career with Westcoast Transmission (presently Spectra Energy). This took the family to Fort St. John, Quesnel and Savona.

Ken retired in 1989 and together Ken and Sheila enjoyed travelling, boating, and prospecting. They were active members of the Canadian Power Squadron for many years.

Ken is survived by his wife Sheila; son Ken; daughters Valerie (Fred) and Lynda (Dan); grandchildren John, Lynden (Lana), Owen and Amelia. He was predeceased by his father William and mother Flora. Ken was a kind and gentle man who will be sadly missed by relatives in Saskatchewan as well as many friends that had the privilege to know him.

A private family Celebration of Life will take place.

Your memory we will always treasure,
in our hearts you will stay forever.
