Manteo downsizes marina

Call it a win for the little guy.

According to the KLO Neighbourhood Association (KLONA), the new marina, currently under construction at Manteo Resort, will be downsized.

In a news release sent out Friday afternoon, the KLONA says, "Manteo Resort has responded to concerns we raised, and those of other regular users of Rotary Beach, about its new dock structure currently under construction.

Manteo has agreed to a realignment of the Marina and a reduction in the number of boat slips to lessen the impact it was having on Rotary Beach."

The release further states:

"Bob Whitehead and Michael Neill from the KLONA met with the Manteo ownership to discuss how the view corridor could be improved by removing part of the dock. Although the drawings of the proposed docks show them to be within the frontage of Manteo's waterfront, the curve of the bay shared by both Manteo and Rotary resulted in sight lines from Rotary Beach that made the docks appear to be in front of the south end of the beach. This did not become apparent until the pilings for the docks were set in place."

"Manteo Resort is an active part of our business community and recognizes its responsibility within the neighbourhood.  As a result of our meeting Manteo has agreed the marina will be modified and boat slips reduced, which will improve view sight lines and kite surfing area."

The membership of the KLO Neighbourhood Association thank Manteo for working with the community on this sensitive matter.

Just how the marina will be modified has not been revealed.
