15 dead after migrant boat overturns
by The Canadian Press - Story: 70615

An official says 15 bodies have been recovered after an overloaded boat carrying migrants from the Dominican Republic overturned off the country's coast.

Dr. Frank Tavarez is the director of a hospital where 10 survivors are being treated, and he told The Associated Press on Sunday that the bodies of 11 men and four women have been found so far.

Rescuers are searching by sea and air for roughly 40 more migrants pitched overboard early Saturday when a crowded smuggler's boat capsized off the coast of the Caribbean island country.

The migrants had left from near the northeast town of Nagua and were apparently headed to the U.S. island of Puerto Rico, a frequent destination for migrants from the Dominican Republic.
