A smoking cellphone caused some tense moments on an airline flight in India, Friday.
The Indigo Airlines Airbus A-320 was descending towards Chennai, on the country's southeast coast, when a passenger noticed smoke coming from an overhead locker.
The flight was en route from Singapore.
Several passengers noticed a smell of smoke and alerted the cabin crew.
They found an overheating Galaxy Note 2 smartphone and extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher, according to reports by NDTV and aviation website aeroinside.com.
The phone was doused with water and secured in a container in the lavatory while the aircraft continued for a safe landing.
India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed the Samsung phone's lithium battery caught fire, and is investigating the incident.
It's more bad news for Samsung, whose Galaxy Note 7 smartphones have been recalled worldwide due to overheating batteries causing fires.
Several civil aviation authorities have banned the use or charging of such phones on board of aircraft.
