Kidnapping a possible hoax

Police say there is no evidence that a California woman who had been reported abducted by her boyfriend and who disappeared for two days was actually kidnapped.

Vallejo police said in a statement late Wednesday that it appears the disappearance of Denise Huskins was "an orchestrated event and not a kidnapping."

They say Huskins had agreed to talk to detectives after reappearing outside her father's apartment in Southern California earlier in the day, but they are now unable to contact either her or her relatives.

Police say she has retained an attorney and they don't know where she is.

Huskins' boyfriend had told police Monday that intruders had abducted her from their San Francisco Bay area home and held her for ransom.

She showed up unharmed outside her father's apartment in Huntington Beach on Wednesday morning.
