Enjoy a steaming Merlot bath

Wine lovers of the Okanagan may want to grab a flight to Japan where people can bathe in a pool of Merlot, yup Merlot.

The open-air wine bath is a new popular attraction at the Hakone Kowakien Yunessun Spa in Hakone, Japan where adults and children can spend the day soaking in the red elixir.

You won't feel the need to drink your delicious bath water as guests are invited to relax in the spa with a glass of wine, presumably from a different wine source.

According to stories, Cleopatra loved bathing in wine and the companies website invites people to join royalty and soak in tub full of fermented grape antioxidants! The Japanese spa claims the wine bath will have a beautifying effect.

Now if you think wasting wine is a sin there are several other 'baths' to choose from including a sake hot tub (allegedly rich in kojic acid which decreases the appearance of sun spots and other signs of aging), the green tea hot tub with tea brewed from leaves grown on the nearby mountains (a soak that promises to load you up with antioxidants, help boost your immune system, produce beautiful skin and improve poor circulation), or even a 'rejuvenating and energizing' coffee bath, where you can soak up the caffeine which they claim helps with cellulite and puffiness and improves fatigued skin.

The spa is open from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., November to February and costs approximately $30 Canadian for a day pass - the flight is extra:-)
