Child left in hot car dies

Two parents have been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of their month-old child, who died after being left in a hot car for two hours.

A statement posted by the Statesville Police Department on its Facebook page said Sherrie Tiesha Clay and Shakee Duquan Robinson, both 29, were arrested Monday. The statement says they also are charged with felony child abuse.

Police were contacted by Iredell Memorial Hospital on July 27 regarding an infant suffering from heat exposure. The child was transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and died there.

Investigators say the child was inside the car for two hours before being discovered by an aunt.

Clay and Robinson are each being held under $200,000 bond in the Iredell County jail. Records don't show if they have attorneys.
