2 fishermen saved from sea

An Air Force official says two badly burned Chinese fishermen rescued from the Pacific are being treated at a San Diego hospital.

Maj. Sarah Schwennesen said Tuesday the men were being treated for burns at the University of California, San Diego, regional burn unit.

She says she has no information on their condition.

The two were among 17 crew members believed aboard a Chinese fishing vessel that caught fire and sank about 1,100 miles off Mexico's Baja peninsula. Two men died, six are missing and seven others were rescued in good condition.

Air Force rescuers responded after a Venezuelan fishing boat spotted a lifeboat carrying 11 Chinese crew members and called for help Friday. Rescuers hoisted the burn victims off the boat and took them to San Diego on Monday.
