Russians complete third spacewalk

Two Russian astronauts have completed a spacewalk that included an unsuccessful attempt to install cameras on the exterior of the International Space Station.

Oleg Kotov and Sergei Ryazansky placed the high-resolution cameras early in the venture that began Friday. But the cameras were not able to transmit data to Russian Mission Control, and the astronauts were told to remove them and bring them inside the orbiting laboratory for inspection.

It was the third spacewalk in a week at the orbiting laboratory. U.S. astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Michael Hopkins performed two on last Saturday and Tuesday to remove and replace a faulty cooling pump.

The Russians' tasks also included replacing equipment that records and transmits telemetric data about seismological conditions. The spacewalk lasted eight hours and seven minutes, setting a new Russian record.
