Wine: Viognier, 2016
Winery: Township 7, Penticton
Why drink it? As we put away our snow boots in hopeful anticipation that spring is approaching, an aromatic Viognier like this one will lead the nose towards honeysuckle, freshly-picked stone fruits, and memories of warm days. But it also has enough body and elegance to be sipped next to the fireplace for the last few evenings that still require a light sweater. Clean and crisp, you’ll find subtle flavours of apricots and peaches with just a hint of creaminess. A good bottle for Easter dinner, and to transition from the big red wines of winter to the white wines of spring.
Price: $23
Pair with: Fresh prawn salad rolls, your favourite sushi, or scallops served with a fragrant rice as a side. If ambitious, hit up Pinterest for mild curry recipes that include apricots or mangoes, or the classic coronation chicken salad with a spicy mayo.
Music pairing: Baby Come Back by Player
