What-s-On

What's on?

Wow. Our small city seems to be growing up. I've been doing this column for three years now and each week there is more and more going on.
Here is a sampling of some of the highlight events coming to town.

Canadian Folk Music icon Valdy is coming to Lake Country on March 5th and will be raising funds for Camp Owassi. http://www.campoac.com/

One of our Talented Kelowna winners are hitting the stage this weekend. Winter Provincial are playing a free show at the Train Station Pub this Friday night at 8pm:

For those who don't know the Trainstation Pub is one of Kelowna's newest live music venues. They also have a unique Sunday afternoon Jazz performance between 12-3pm. This Sunday they have Anna Jacyszan Trio. She will be joined by some of our top local Jazz performers in town Neville Bowman and Bernie Addington.

You may recall that Anna is also the host of the monthly Jazz Cafe held at the Black Box each week:

Obviously you probably all heard that Sting is coming to town. It was also recently announced that comedian and ex husband of Drew Barrymore, Tom Green, is coming to Kelowna.
Tickets go on sale this Friday (Jan 25th) at 10am. www.keynotetickets.com

Local filmmaker, Marc Arellano is all set to release his latest film: “Spinning Green”. Its being launched during the World Film Festival right here in Kelowna. Spinning Green is a documentary about SPIN Farming (Small Plot Intensive Farming). Did you know that we have a new breed of farming emerging right here in Kelowna?  Its being led by the creative social activist, Curtis Stone, who is the focus of the documentary.

Here's the preview:

For more information about our well respected and established local film festival go to their site: http://www.worldfilmfestkelowna.net/index.html

Lastly I've now launched “Singalong Saturdays” at the Pheasant and Quail pub. If your wondering what that is I did a quick interview with the person who came up with the idea Andrew Smith (leader of the Public House Band). Its every Saturday for the next 9 weeks at the P and Q starting at 8:30pm. We had a full house last week for our first show so if your coming arrive early and get ready to sing.
