Taste of Home and a Nosh

Taste of Home - a multicultural sampling of food and lively entertainment from around the world!

Global Citizen Week Kelowna presents a Taste of Home on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012, from 5:30pm until 8:30pm, as its’ finale to cap off Global Citizen Kelowna Week- an annual series of engaging and informative events about global awareness.

The Taste of Home will be held at the New Life Auditorium (entrance is through the doors facing Future Shop), found at 2041 Harvey Avenue, in Kelowna. Please bring your family and friends, along with a healthy appetite, for this entertaining and palette-pleasing affair.

As the name suggests “Taste of Home” is all about recognizing and celebrating the fact that everyone in our community has an ethnic heritage or “home”. By ‘tasting’ together a variety of foods and enjoying together the musical/artistic performances – all of which remind us of the various ‘homes’, we gain a new appreciation for how similar we really are.

Enjoy such culinary treasures like tasty morsels of Chicken Tamales from the land of Mexico, flavorful Ukrainian Pyrogies from Eastern Europe, hot Meat Pies from the outback of Australia, or fresh big bites of Sushi from Japan in the East.

New to Taste of Home this year is Ethnic Meals in 20 Minutes, in which you will be able to watch a live demonstration and leave with a recipe on how to make dishes such as Japanese Sushi, Bengali Butter Chicken, Lebanese Hummus, and Jamaican Jerk Sauce.

In addition to the global food extravaganza, live entertainment will provide guests with a dose of cultural background. Arabic, Hawaiian, Scottish, French, Indo-Canadian, and Jewish performers are just some of the entertainers that will provide an additional global flare to the evening.

With free admission and food tickets sold for $1 - $3 each, this event is sure to please anyone and everyone! For more information about the Taste of Home event, as well as others during Global Citizen Week Kelowna, please check out the website.

From 2009 here is an example of the type of entertainment you will see at the "Taste of Home".

Neighborhood Nosh

Another food event this week (Thursday, March 1st from 4-6pm) is the Neighbourhood Nosh in the BC VQA wine shop.

As part of their 15yr birthday celebrations the BC Wine Museum & BC VQA Wine Shop are featuring 22 wines from Gehringer Brothers and Volcanic Hills (who have been winning lots of awards recently), while also sampling some illichmann & Son's Sausage & Delicatessen and Gort's Gouda cheeses.

Simply said this all sounds scrumptious !
