Lawn bowling revival

When you think of lawn bowling, images of prim and proper ladies and gentlemen of a certain age tend to spring to mind, not young, successful, professionals. Well, this summer an event at the Kelowna Lawn Bowling Club is seeking to change that!
The local Kelowna Lawn Bowling Club, established in 1909, a mere three years after the City was founded, is the host venue for a fun, unique event this summer capitalizing on fundraising and introducing newbies to the game.
On The Lawn, a new initiative, is a summer tournament and finale party designed especially with young professionals in mind. Beginning Thursday, July 30th, for three consecutive Thursdays, players will compete for prizes, socialize, network, and enjoy the exploration of the sport of lawn bowling.
Twenty teams of four will compete at the lakeside club, with all proceeds of the event going towards Elevation Outdoors, whose mission is to enhance the lives of underprivileged youth via specially-designed outdoor programs.
For me personally I think this event offers a glimpse into the potential of the Kelowna Lawn Bowling facility and hopefully increase the usage of a venue that has some prime real estate in Kelowna's City Park.
Daylin Mantyka and Fiona McGregor, co-organizers of the event, are excited to bring lawn bowling to a new generation, they have both bowled in countries where lawn bowling is a popular game for young people.
Designed for young professionals in Kelowna, On The Lawn brings three evenings of entertainment, networking and socializing in the form of a lawn bowling tournament and finale party. 20 teams of four will bowl it out each week. As Fiona says "We will provide bowls, music, BBQ, wine, beer, and cocktails, all at Kelowna’s downtown, lakeside, sun-drenched Bowling Club while all the proceeds go to our chosen charity, Elevation Outdoors."
Of course they will also have some "talented old timers" to help offer some tips and tricks on how to ensure your team comes out on top.
If you're looking for a fun, new activity this summer and a way to network with other professionals while giving back, gather a team together and check out this truly unique event! On The Lawn runs July 30, August 6, and August 13.
