Kelowna Folk Club: Tamara Nile

Tamara Nile has been performed at some of North America’s  biggest folk festivals, sold over 9000 albums, and is set to do a show for the Kelowna Folk Club on Feb 12th.  When I met her about 10 years ago she was the host of a weekly showcase at the well known Railway Club. Although she no longer hosts that show she weaves her collaborative style into every aspect of her creative ventures. Her recent tour featured a variety of guests including dancers, poets, and of course musicians. While her musical style blends soulful synth pop with an electro folk edge.

“I have two EPs coming out in 2014  "Tingle & Spark- Running" and "Tingle & Spark - We Never Fall Down" out on April 8th and August 12th respectively. Both are full of dance influences from hip-hop to reggae to electro pop. Next time I come through town I'll be playing a theater or club so this Kelowna Folk Club show will be a unique experience.” T.Nile

“Every type of show has it's own merit. Festival and theater shows are rewarding cause they attract music lovers. House concerts quite an intimate magical experience for both the player and the listeners. I'm stoked to do this house concert tour. “ T.Nile

The house concert show is hosted by the Kelowna Folk Club, who have been hosting shows in a variety of  formats for almost 20 years around Kelowna. As some of you may recall they have featured some very well known acts over that time including:  Dave McLean, Rick Scott, Oysterband, and Stephen Fearing to name a few. Constantly evolving they recently shifted their focus to facilitating house concerts. Some of their shows are now actually part of a larger network of over 180 house concerts venues around North America (facilitated through www.homeroutes.ca). By shifting to focus on these more intimate shows the club keeps the costs low and provides a very friendly and intimate setting for the shows.

They are currently recruiting members and will be producing a increasing number of house concerts in 2014. So if you love folk music this is a great time to discover a whole community of folks passionate about music. Tickets for all shows are available on their website and at ABC Hobby & Games, located at Dilworth & 97 across from the mall.
