Chamber to become Board of Trade

The Westbank & District Chamber of Commerce have announced their 2013 Board of Directors, elected at their annual general meeting on Jan. 14.
Norm LeCavalier and Marek Buryska have been named as co-chairs, with Chris Cruz filling the position of secretary, Gary Schlenker as treasurer and Rosalind Neis as second vice-president.
“The Board has made great strides in the last year so for the sake of consistency and continuity with its current direction and progress, it was recommended to the membership to acclaim the Board this year. Yes, there are new faces which we are excited to have join us as they bring a broad scope of expertise that Chamber members will ultimately benefit from”, explains LeCavalier in a release by the chamber.
They also announced their decision to move the structure of the chamber into a Board of Trade format, including a new name – the Greater Westside Board of Trade, but that name is still not official.
“The Chamber was incorporated as a Board of Trade but never took on the name. We believe the new name will assist us in projecting a new image which ultimately will reflect a broader scope that encompasses all businesses stretching along the west side of Okanagan Lake. We look forward to partnering with other Chambers of Commerce and organizations such as the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association,” says Co-Chair Marek Buryska.
The chamber hopes the name change will evoke a united, powerful voice when lobbying on behalf of local Westside business issues to local representatives of provincial and federal governments.
Mathew Kraemer, Bill Raine, Kris Smart, Gene Stafford, Sherri Van Doren and Mic Werstuik round out the 2013 Board of Directors.
