A stolen pick-up truck was used in at least one commercial break in over the weekend in West Kelowna.

Police say the truck, was being driven near the Sears building on Old Okanagan Highway without its lights on, when it apparently struck a sign.

The driver took off in the truck but the tailgate was left behind.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight Saturday morning.

Cst. Kris Clark says a short time later, police received a commercial alarm from Sears in West Kelowna.

"It was determined a rear window had been smashed and that several items had been stolen including four LED television sets and two vacuum cleaners," says Clark.

The value of those items is estimated at more than $3,700.

"The black pick-up truck is believed to be associated."

Shortly before 4 a.m., Clark says a second break in occurred at the Open Road Store at 100-2330 Highway 97 South.

"A black crew cab pick-up truck had been observed backing into the front of the store and causing the glass to break," says Clark.

"The driver then entered the store and took an undetermined amount of clothing."

That vehicle is described as a newer GMC crew cab with fancy rims, lowered profile and a loud exhaust.

Police believe it may be a 2000 GMC Sierra reported stolen late last month from a residence on Sumac Road.
