Nancee Way nears completion

The final phase of the $41M Westside Road Interchange project will be open before Christmas.

The Nancee Way overpass project was delayed two months while repairs were made to the partially collapsed Westside Road Overpass and materials on the new overpass were tested and re-tested.

Project spokesperson, Evelyn Lube, confirmed Nancee Way will be open to traffic within the next three weeks after meeting with the contractor Wednesday morning.

While both Nancee Way and Highway 97 will be completely open to traffic, Lube says some work won't be completed until the spring.

She says the final lift paving on Nancee Way will be delayed until the spring in order to utilize better weather conditions in order to provide an ideal surface.

The first layer of asphalt will be laid down to give drivers a paved surface through the winter.

Lube says all lines throughout the project on both Highway 97 and Nancee Way will be redone in the spring.

Contractors are also working with both BC Hydro and Telus to re-install street lights along Highway 97 as well.

Lube says removal of barriers along Highway 97 has already begun. She expects that work to be complete before the end of the week.

Minor line painting also needs to be complete on the highway.

As for the 60km/h speed restriction through the construction site, Lube says that will remain in effect until further notice.

She says the final say on speed limits rests with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Safety assurances need to be provided before the speed restriction can be removed.
